If you’re reading this email, you’re probably interested in finding tangible ways to fight the spread of authoritarianism in our country.
Please consider this your personal invitation to help shape our five-month project to support candidate Katy Padilla Stout and spark new connections throughout TX-23, a massive, 27-county district.

Let’s plot the future of the Katy Brigade! We’re squeezing three meetings in to the next few weeks, before Peak Summer makes it impossible — all with the same agenda, so you only need to pick one:
MEETING #1: VIA ZOOM
Thurs, June 11, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
RSVP HERE
What are you doing two days from now? Jump on a Zoom with us!
MEETING #2: IN PERSON 😍

NOTE: Our friends at the Democracy Study Group are hosting a NO KINGS CONCERT WATCH PARTY beginning at 6:15 … we won’t be offended if you leave our meeting early to watch the livestream with them.

If you’re out of town this week, we’ve got one more option!
Our goal is to develop a basic timeline of activities so we’re ready to hit the ground running in September, when most folks will start really paying attention.
In the meantime, the Texas Observer weighed in this week on the race, highlighting Herrera’s weaknesses as a candidate. (For starters, his own side has called him a “known neo-Nazi.”)
***We’d love to amplify this Observer article, so if you know anyone in TX-23, we hope you’ll share it with them … or post it on your own social media. Can we suggest the hashtag #HellNoHerrera?
Also this week: the Texas Tribune pointed out that District 23 is the epicenter of the New World screwworm outbreak. And yet the district is currently without representation, because Gov. Abbott hasn’t yet set a date for a special election to fulfill the remainder of Tony Gonzales’ term in office.
Katy’s doing the best she can as a candidate (follow her on Insta if you’re not already). But it sure sounds like Gov. Greg doesn’t have a ton of confidence in his candidate. Why else wouldn’t he move quickly to schedule that election?

We’re on to something here, y’all. Let’s plot our future together!
