Here's What's Next 🗓️

FORWRD-ATX is just getting started: our next meeting date & more

You Proved Something Last Weekend 🥳

Can we take a moment here at the top of the email to celebrate?

A few weeks ago, three women who had never met before decided in our Signal group to work together to plan an Empty Chair Town Hall targeting Rep. Mike McCaul.

They didn’t have a political party or any organization behind them. They just had us — a loose collective of citizens who are organizing and giving ourselves permission to act.

Could we pull off an actual live event with any credibility, featuring the voices of District 10 voters? Would the resources the team needed — funding and volunteers — show up as promised?

They did, and you did, and we did. Last weekend left us feeling exhilarated, proud … and excited to keep going.

Thank you to Allison Lowery, Amy Webberman, and Kelly Holmes, who planned a flawless event. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, asked questions, or attended. And a special thank you to Lars Frazer (aka, Lex’s husband!) for the beautiful photographs.

We filled up the whole parking lot, too ….

If you weren’t there, Allison’s blistering recap is worth your time.

So Here’s What’s Next

Just because Rep. McCaul is back in Washington, we don’t think we should let him off the hook!

The FORWRD-ATX Arts & Culture group has designed this “missing person” flyer to distribute in strategic pockets of District 10:

👉🏾👉🏾👉🏾 Can you join the distribution team to get these flyers out ASAP? Fight authoritarianism while getting your steps in! Let’s keep the pressure on “AWOL McCaul”!

Our Next Meeting

Mark your calendars for our next meeting! The Griffin School has graciously agreed to host us again.

Date:  Wednesday, June 4
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Where:  5001 Evans Avenue, Austin, 78751

If you’ve got ideas for sessions, trainings, projects, or speakers, please let us know via our virtual suggestion box. We hope you can make it … and bring a like-minded friend with you!

Adopt-A-Winner Update

Our project to “adopt” a candidate in the 2026 midterms is moving along. The planning committee met last week to discuss how we’ll select a candidate — or perhaps more than one — to get behind. (Spoiler alert: we’ll all get to vote!)

You’ll be hearing a lot more about this project in the weeks ahead. This will give us an excellent opportunity to identify and promote promising new voices and leaders. Here’s to changing the face of power, together! 🥂

Protecting Protestors

We were proud to sign this letter encouraging our local government to take proactive measures (outlined here) to protect the constitutional rights of people engaged in nonviolent civil protest.

The pressure on Austin to use surveillance and over-policing tactics will grow, as local protests gain momentum. We know this, because they’ve done it before: in 2020, Governor Abbott activated the National Guard in response to local protests after the death of George Floyd. And Attorney General Ken Paxton sues the City of Austin repeatedly over his culture war nonsense, so we can expect more of that. (Here’s a fraction of the evidence: Exhibit A, Exhibit B, Exhibit C.)

As peaceful protestors are being arrested and disappeared in cities like Boston and New York, we encourage our local officials to stand firm against any illegal order that violates our civil rights.

They’re coming after all of us. And we all need to get in their way. 🤜🏽 🤛🏽
